Hi - Any help appreciated here - all hair torn out!!
My son just left for Uni (I already manage several users remotely), so did my standard VPN install and set up scheduled tasks for remote backup. Not working...
The symptoms are strange and for once a Google search gets zero hits!!
- The WHS Connector tray, when clicking on "Backup now" gives a popup error message of "Cannot start backup" [What generates this? Why does Google give 0 hits?]
- Using BackupNow.exe in the Program Files\WHS directory works... [sometimes]
- If I try BackupEngine.exe in the same directory, it gives an error message on the WHS tray icon that the backup failed... and then nothing works! Needs a full connector re-install...
- Using Discovery.exe in the same directory fails to find the server
- Symptoms move around after a WHS Connector re-install [which often takes mutliple attempts after initial failed installs], but tend to stablise at the above
- No error messages in the logs throw any light on this
- Other remote PCs on my server work fine (but are all XP, W7)
- The PC/backup worked fine when connected directly to the WHS via WLAN/LAN
The OS is Vista. There's clearly Run as Admin/UAC issues at play for the automated bit, but I'm at a loss after a couple of weeks bashing this why basic backup configuration keeps modifying itself and failing. Hoping for some wisdom before upgrading to W7 and starting again!!
