Having wasted a good deal of time and some money trying to set up a GoDaddy domain as directed by the auto options available in the Remote Access setup menu I discovered that I could access the WHS remotely using a free domain donated by Asus (courtesy of their Router and a part setup Remote Web Access setup in WHS itself). In fact it seems to work brilliantly, however, it means that I have an incomplete Remote Web Access setup in WHS! (do I care about this?) and also I'm using a website with no SSL attached. Frankly I have no idea whether I should worry about this or not. I always assumed that sites without SSL were dangerous if you were parting with money or doing internet banking etc.
Appreciate some guidance from those who understand these matters as would rather not fork out the additional money for the GoDaddy SSL cert which I avoided purchasing when I seem to have a perfectly workable solution. However if I have inadvertently exposed my Server/Network to some unnecessary risks I may be less complacent!
NB The Remote Web Access is telling me that the Router is not working (although this message seems to vanish from time to time) and that the Domain Name is not set up. But RWA is enabled and I believe works as intended!!!
Many Thanks for any advice on this perplexing situation.
