I have 2, 2TB drives that my EasyStore 340 uses for data (& another drive with the operation system on it)
One of the 2TB drives is failing, I've had a few problems lately & just got a popup saying a "Smart Event" has been recorded (or something)
I've identified the bad drive & pulled it from the system.
Now I'd like to slip a new drive into the spare bay and copy all my shares to it in an unencrypted form so they can be easily accessed from any Windows machine.
I thought it would be as easy as... pop in the drive, format using Control Panel/Administrative tools/Computer Management/Storage/Disk Management, just like on any WinXP machine. Then open Windows Explorer & copy the Shares folder to the new drive.
Nope. I keep getting an error message saying, "can't copy (filename) the device is not connected".
So once again I turn to those who kindly volunteer to help those of us that don't know these systems that well.
How can I copy my shares to a drive I can remove & use in another machine?
Once that's done, I'll see about replacing the bad drive & getting the system back up the way it should be.
Edit: when I "removed" the bad drive I mean I physically removed it from the Easystore box. I did not remove it from the Server Storage tab by right clicking the drive & selecting remove.
Duplication IS enabled, and I don't have enough room to keep the duplication with the bad drive pulled. The drive I plan to copy the Shares to is only 1TB. Enough space for my Shares, but not for the backups.
