Hey there folks.
I'm a current Home Server 1 user, having built my own box during the beta for the origin MS Home Server in Feb 2007. It's a pretty basic system built to be low power and quiet
Antec 'Sonata II' case (has rubber mounts on the drive carriers to isolate vibration)
AMD Turon 2Ghz processor (yes, that's a 'mobile' cpu)
EPoX 8NPA motherboard (one of few that would work with that cpu and had 4 SATA-II connectors)
1Gb Corsair memory
a big Zalman copper 'flower' cpu heatsink (so I could run the fan real slow and quiet)
The original drives were a pair of Maxtor Pro 500GB drives (hey, that was a lot of space back then)
about Later added a pair of Seagate 1TB drives
Then in late 2010 when one of the maxtors started failing, replaced those with a pair of 2TB seagates
Now I'm starting to see signs of the 1TB drives going south, and with my wife having gotten into digital photography, the storage space requirements are skyrocketing around here.. SO I'm figuring it's time to upgrade both the homeserver software and the box.
I'll be interested to see what people have in the way of recommendations for a good motherboard and processor to run WHS 2011 on. (still with an emphasis on low power use and quiet)
