Replacing Data Drives

Hi,

I have an HP EX475 and I need to replace the data drives because they are almost up to capacity. I have a couple of questions.

100GB system drive is in bay 0 (bottom). There are two data drives, both 500GB, in bays 1 and 2 and I'll be replacing them with two 2TB drives. All shared folders have duplication turned on, and there is 5% free space on the server storage. Not surprisingly, the system doesn't have enough space to allow me to simply remove one of the data drives.

It seems like my best bet is to add one of the new drives in bay 3, wait for the storage to balance, and then remove the old drive in bay 2. Then add the second new drive in bay 2, wait for it to balance again before removing the old drive in bay 1.

Question 1: Is this correct? Have I missed anything? Anything I should know?

Question 2: After I've done this I'll have data drives in bays 2 and 3 with bay 1 empty. Can I take the drive from bay 3 and put it in bay 1? Will this cause any problems?

T(he EX475 is supposed to be hot-swapable, but I plan to power it down when I swap drives. Also, I have two separate full and verified backups.)

I'd be grateful for help/comments on this.

Thanks,,

Andy
