This may or may not be LightsOut related, I'm suspecting not, but I figure this is my best avenue for help.
For months now, I've had problems with my server seemingly randomly hanging during either the wake or sleep process, I couldn't tell you which so for the purpose of this topic we'll assume it's sleep. I'd notice it when I try to access the server, and discover it "running" but totally inaccessible. Sometimes the fans are running at high speed, as if it's it's just been powered on. The problem went away for about 6 weeks, but came back recently.
To me, this all pointed to a hardware issue, except the apparent cause doesn't seem to back that up.
It appears that if the last client machine idles to sleep (or for my laptop, if I close the lid and it sleeps), the server hangs when going to sleep itself. The only solution is to force a hard reboot.
If a client machine idles to sleep, or my laptop sleeps because I close the lid, but other clients are still active, and they are shut down or instructed to sleep, the server sleeps and wakes perfectly.
The server wakes and sleeps perfectly for server backups, client backups, and scheduled TV recordings.
Any Ideas for solving this are welcome. I really do want my clients to be able to idle to sleep in case I do first.
