Hello all,
I have been having issues with my old archaic server, and considering upgrading the components. It currently is:
AMD X2 4000+
2gb Patriot extreme ddr2 800 (2x1gb)
Gigabyte 740G mobo (i dont like gigabyte, it was cheap 4 years ago)
80gb os disk, 2x500gb WD Green drives
Server 2008 R2 (used to run WHS v1, but got tired of some options, and wanted to try Server 2008)
It is noticably slow when diong any task, writing backups, installing updates/programs, sorting out media libraries, etc.
I thought about updating to this:

G1610 celeron
h77 chip asus board
4gb ram
overall tech refresh you know?
second option here, slightly different hardware, about same price:

Any ideas are welcome! right now its all less than 500 bucks with OS and parts. If you have any recommendations that could save more money please let me know! Or a suggestion on better hardware for such system. I am looking to keep PC backups, personal data storage, picture storage, media streaming. Just very basic stuff. If you know of some roles/addons for server 2008 that will make it work better than WHS v1 let me know, and i wont spend the 50 on WHS '11. If 2011 is worth it, might just pick it up. Some things were great with v1, but some things sucked...like installing on a drive and have it be THE SOLE DRIVE for OS...
Thanks in advance!
Nate
