Hi i run a small business with 6 users and want to a fast file server (as some files are big and downloading them from my computer which acts as a file server is slow in my opinion). I am really new to all this and therefore apologies in advance if some of my questions sound stupid/obvious! ![:)]()
I have bought a HP N40l which will have 8gb ram and 2 x 3tb WD Red's in it which will be connected to the network switch (Netgear GS198) which all computers are hard wired to. After much research I have opted to use nas4free as the os which will be loaded off internal usb port (embedded). Key things I want the server to be able to do are:
1. Give protection in case of drive failure.... So looking at raid 1.
2. Have a solution whereby a scheduled back up is also performed periodically.
3. Give fast file access to all users within my business
For 2 I was thinking of installing hard drives in bay 3 of the server. Questions are:
Is this possible and what software if any would I need?
Does the setup I am thinking of sound optimum?
Is there anything I am missing?
