Server Restore Failed (Disk Size To Small?)

Hi there,

I am trying to restore my server's OS drive using bare metal restore (booted up with install media and chose system image recovery). I had the OS installed on a dedicated 60GB SSD. Using the server backup functionality I previously prepared two backups of that drive on an external 300 GB hard disk drive.

I am stuck with the following error message:

The system image restore failed. Error details: The disk that is set up as active in BIOS is too small to recover the original system disk. Replace the disk with a larger one and retry the restore operation. (0x80042407)

Apparently the size of the backup on my external storage is greater than the physical size of the SSD.

How can that be? Is there a workaround this issue?

As a last resort, I might be forced to ditch the BMR and reinstall from scratch. Is it possible to later recover only the Active Directory and/or Group Policy Settings from that existing backup?

Cheers, jw
