WHS 2009 w/PP3, running in a 4-port dedicated Acer (I think?) server case. 3x 1.5TB, 1x 1TB (system drive); Storage Pool was ~90% full when one of the 1.5TB HDDs died.
Loud noises started coming from the drive itself the other day. I can hear the head skipping against *something* inside of it, and that means it shall receive a proper burial. Drive will not even stay on long enough to be recognized by the system -- it seems the controller knows that ****'s getting real with that drive and shuts it down rather quickly. He's dead, Jim.
But this is why we have redundancy with Drive Extender, right? Every guide to recovering my data I've read says the first step is removing the drive from the Storage Pool, but WHS Console wouldn't let me do that without the drive connected. And since we've established that cannot happen, I did a bunch of searching for alternative methods (none of which worked) before stumbling upon this guide and successfully removing it from the pool. I've since purchased a shiny new 2TB HDD and added it to the Pool as another regular drive, so there's room to work now.
Question is, how do I now recover my data from the backups on the other drives?
