I've been going through "network hell" the past few weeks trying to discover the reason our upload speed/bandwidth with Time Warner/Roadrunner cable have gone to hell. Everything is dandy as long as I'm hard-wired (Ethernet) into the TWC cable modem. But, as soon as I plug a wireless router into that modem the PING goes up 1,000 ms+++ and the upload becomes <.01 GHz -- no matter whether I access the router via ethernet wire or wireless.
Anyway! I've been doing the usual analysis of all changes to the system that could have caused the current problem and am wondering about "Intel Rapid Storage Technology".
A month ago I had fired up a Dell desktop PC running XP Pro -- the PC had been offline/out of the system for 2 years or so. A couple of weeks ago I began getting "error notices" alerting me to the fact that IRST was not installed. I ignored this all for awhile buit finally relented and Intel Rapid Storage Technology was downloaded and installed -- the system seemed happy.
When I open "Intel Rapid Storage Technology" I can see that it's "monitoring" (?) the pc's onboard hard drive. That 230 GB drive is just supposed to be an unadulterated, straight from Dell, drive. Peeking around the corners I see that IRST might have something to do with RAID. (??!!)
WHAT is "Intel Rapid Storage Technology" AND could it have anything to do with my failing internet upload speeds?? Do I need it?
BTW -- my in-house wireless network is screaming fast. Putting the wireless router online trashes the internet, but the router, extender and the adapters in the laptops are all working above expectations. I'm out in the boonies and there is no wireless disturbance -- I have one neighbor whose home wireless network sometimes "shows up" as a very weak, distant signal.
BTW2 -- the router is a Netgear Dual Band N -- I replaced it for a few days with a comparable, latest and greatest Linksys unit and the problems were duplicated exactly.
I know this topic might not really fit here, but the tech level and width of experience of this forum's membership far exceeds my local talent., TWC techs, after getting acceptable results while being hard-wired into their modem, say THEIR systems are fine, the problem is MINE.
