Dear all, my first question and post here if I am not mistaken.
Networking/using Windows Home Server and Linux - SUSE to be specific.
First of all, SUSE offers the ability to access Windows Shares.
-> Network, add a network drive -> pick server (by IP), path -> connect -> enter credentials, done.
This works fine - but has some drawbacks.
1) You need to enter your details or at least confirm them every time you want to open the network drive.
2) Software such as Amarok/VLC do not want to stream from the network folder (not sure why).
As it is primarily media, UPnP should work too except that I cannot seem to have it work, then again, actually automatically mounting the drive would be easier.
Searching the web a bit, there are ways of creating a mountpoint, assigning the server a name via the Hosts file... I tried in a VM (disposable) and could not get it to work (before I carry that across to the laptop running SUSE). Then again there must be a simpler way of doing this.
So, what is an idiotproof, easy for all way of having a WHS network share behave the same under Linxu (SUSE for me) as under Windows?
