I have a home brew WHS V1 server which I've had for several years. The Backup Cleanup has stopped working. A failed backup which I marked for deletion at the next cleanup is still there after 18 days. The backups have been consuming more and more disk space with no reduction in this usage after several weeks. In theory every Sunday during the backup window it should delete old backups. If I try to perform a manual Backup Cleanup it runs for a couple of minutes and then fails with a message of: "An error in the backup service is preventing the cleanup operation".
I have 2 hard disks installed. The system disk is a 1.5TB with all the backups (approx 300GB) and about 240GB of shared folders. The 2nd disk is a 500GB disk with about 240GB of duplicated shared folders.
Can anybody shed any light on this and give me a pointer to the cause and remedy?
