I've recently upgraded our home media server from a WD NAS running Twonky to an HP Proliant box running WHS 2011. The main media client is a Samsung HT-C5500/XEU home theater connected to the TV. While the WD NAS drive had its share of problems(!) the setup with WHS 2011 hasn't solved all of them either. Specifically:
1. The media server in WHS 2011 doesn't appear to be supplying the music or video thumbnails to the HT-C5500. The HT-C5500 can see other media servers on the network, including my Win 8 Pro laptop and if it uses the laptop as the media server then the video and music thumbnails for the content being streamd from it appear correctly. The Win 8 pro laptop also sees the the video and music thumbnails correctly when connected to the WHS 2011 server. Is this the normal behaviour of the WHS 2011 media server or is the problem at the HT-C5500 end?
2. The WHS 2011 media server to HT-C5500 connection gets dropped frequently when loading the media index information, often taking 3 or 4 tries before the complete list of my 8000 music tracks gets transferred and visible on the TV. Once the track or the video is selected the WHS 2011 media server streams the music or video just fine. It is just getting the library index information over in the first place or when it is refreshed during searhes etc. that is the problem. Again, is this recognised behaviour of the WHS 2011 media server or should I look at the HT-C5500 end for the problem?
Finally, if the above two issues are known problems with the WHS 2011 media server is there a more compatible media server app for the HT-C5500 out there, Twonky, Plex, Serviio...?
Any insights would be much appreciated!
