I admit that I am not a WHS expert. I have had a MediaSmart server for almost 2 years. It has worked fine until recently. I have not made any hardware changes to the desktop PC, server or network.
My nightly backups are now failing and I cannot figure out the cause. Please tell me how to find a log file so I can post it here. I can see the error message, but it is very long and copy and pasting isn't available. The error I get is on two of the local drives of the desktop PC. The error message includes:
An unexpected exception occurred on the computer.
COMException
The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error.
(Exception from HRESULT:0x8004045D)
at
System.Runtime, interopServices.Marshal.ThrowExceptinoFor HRIntern
al(Int32 errorCode {illegible because I cant scroll down any more in the error window}
Additionally, whenever I access the WHS through the connector software, it moves VERY slow. it may take 1-2 minutes to connect and then take 1-2 minutes to move from each click of the mouse. I suspect that this is not normal. When I clicked on the HP Server Status option, I noticed that it listed CPU usage at 100%. Is that normal? How do I determine if there is something running on the server that is taxing the CPU?
My suspicion is that it could be a network issue, however I have been using the same network setup since before I purchased the server and the server backed up fine until now. I have a Linksys WRT54G router which is wired to an old linksys router with DHCP disabled so it functions as a hub/switch. Both the desktop and the server are wired to this second router/hub. Internet access is fine and fast. I can access other computers on the network and access the WHS through the Windows 7 NETWORK folder. I have moved files very rapidly this way, so would it be the network?
Desktop PC is Windows 7 home premium. WHS is 2003.
What else do you need to assist me?
Thanks!
