Who else is in the same boat? WHS v1 has served me well. But given it's a few versions behind now and it is only 32 bit, the time has come to prepare for a new server. Not interested in the latest / greatest. Used a test PC with Win 8 on it and just hated it, this is a personal preference.
Win 7 has been very stable for my uses so I am thinking about putting together a Win 7 file server. All Win 7 machines can backup over the network so this may take over the WHS PC backups. Remote Access can be rigged on the router to point to the right PC, just takes some work.
Of course, will have to setup SyncBack on all PC's that I want to backup data from but there is no reason why this cannot work.
