I bought a used HP Microserver N40L off eBay about 7 months ago and I'm only really starting to use it. I've noticed that it's having trouble shutting down. Here's what I've noticed:
When trying to restart the server (either auto restarts after updates, or via RD), the server goes through the motions of shutting down and actually does shut down (there's an event from Kernel General, "Operating System is shutting down at ...."). But... the fans, lights, and hard drives do not power down. At first I thought maybe the OS itself was hanging, but I think it's something else. I have to manually turn it off to get it to start back up again.
I did notice there is a third party BIOS on this thing, because it mentions "AHCI AVF The Bay" when it first starts up. I believe this was to enable RAID of one type or another?
Here's another complication: when I'm just shutting down the server, everything works as it should. The OS shuts down, and when it's done, everything powers down.
Any ideas?
Thanks!
