I've had an HP EX 470 since the month they went on sale. The Restore CD and Restore Wizard saved my bacon a number of times during XP days.
However, I now have two Win 7 64-bit machines, and I needed to restore one of them. The Restore CD cannot find a NIC or the Home Server. I think I have a handle on how to get 32-bit drivers loaded, although I haven't actually succeeded at it yet.
That failure led to my testing the Restore CD on the other machine. It has an Asus motherboard (P7P55D-E Pro) and an I7 860 CPU with 64-bit Win7 installed. It's run flawlessly the entire 17 months of its existence. On this machine, the Restore CD won't even boot at all. It goes through "Windows is loading files," then proceeds to a screen with the animated green progress bar for a minute or so, and then it goes to a black screen.
I went to Microsoft and downloaded a new ISO for the Restore CD with the same damned result.
I've Googled this problem and searched tech fora until I'm blue in the face, but I can't find anyone in the world who's reported this problem before. I think that the Restore CD is using the Windows PE to boot, so I searched high and low for a reason why the Preinstallation Environment would fail and struck out altogether there, as well.
Can anyone give me a hint why a Restore CD wouldn't even boot to the Restore Wizard at all?
