Server Backup Not Performing Incremental Backups

Hi,

I have my Server Backup set to run at 23:00 and 06:30. The first one secures the "days trading" on the Server and then the early morning backup secures the client backups that run overnight (including two remote PCs that come in over VPN).

Has anyone seen (or can comment on) the following behaviour:

The 11pm backup is always incremental and typically takes about 3-4 minutes to run. The morning backup always performs a Full backup of the Data Drive (about 730GB) and takes around 4 hours.

Typically, the data added during the client backups is under 2GB.

The backup config is; System Reservered Partion, OS Drive (120 GB SSD with about 85GB free), "Bare Metal Restore", Data Drive - (1.8 TB - all folders marked for inclusion, except the "Recorded Shows" folder where my Media Centre PC dumps .dvr-ms files. Total data around 730GB)

I have recently changed my hardware - moved from a Tranquil BBS2 to an N54L MicroServer. Move was done via a Server Restore of the OS (to move it onto the new SSD) and then physically moving the other drives. The target backup drive is a removeable caddy connected to a PCI-E 2-port SATA controller - All of the other "native" bays on the N54L house the drives that were pysically moved across.

I'm concerned that it might be an issue with the PCIE SATA card, which is this unit:

What I will try doing is relocating the backup drive into one of the MicroServers internal bays and see if that makes a difference - Bit more of a pain to rotate Backup drives (have to unscrew it from the caddy each time) - but if it works then it has ID's the problem.

If anyone has any information / opinions I'd be interested to hear.
