Anyone Using Their Server As A Dvr?

My Fios bill continues to climb and I don't like it. I want to get rid of all my boxes and use my own server to do the recording / serving.

I'm thinking my server makes the most sense as opposed to having a card in my HTPC because I then have to worry about how to serve the the recordings or utilizing the tuners on a non centralized device

The only issue is I don't think WHS is a good idea for this sort of thing? Looks like MC is the option for a DVR type setup which WHS is obviously lacking so not sure what my options are
