Hi, I've been struggling with getting my WHS 2011 + Netatalk running smoothly, and was hoping to get some advice. I know some of you have installed a Linux VM running Netatalk, or possibly even FreeNAS/equivalent. Where are you placing the sparse bundle files? On a Windows share in your WHS pool or in a virtual disk in the Linux VM?
I just set up a VM running Ubuntu and Netatalk 3, and tried to keep the architecture similar to SJ_UnderWater's approach. All the Time Machine data is on a WHS share. Ubuntu mounts the share, and Netatalk serves it out. It sounded great in theory but I'm getting nervous that all that networking back and forth could make it prone to corruption. It has been suggested to me that I should instead store the Time Machine data in a virtual disk attached to the Linux VM -- but this also seems a bit convoluted (wrapping a disk image inside of another disk image), plus now there are two servers to back up.
Any thoughts?
Thanks!
