Hi everyone,
I'm new to the forums and have just ordered a server (my first!). Read the book "Using Windows Server 2012 Essentials Step by Step" and found it extremely helpful (wish it had an active table of contents in Kindle though. Maybe v2.0.).
The server I ordered will run Windows Server 2012 Essentials, of course. I will be using the server in my home/home office over a Cat 5e LAN. I ordered a low noise custom server from Puget Computers. If your interested, here are the specs: M/B: Asus P8C WS CPU: Intel Xeon E3-1225 V2 3.2GHz Quad Core 8MB 77W RAM: 16GB ECC; Storage: Primary (OS) drive: 240Gb Intel 330 SSD; D: will be Storage Space (2-way mirror) 2 x Western Digital Red 3TB Case: Fractal Design Define R4 (8 drive capacity); Power Supply: Seasonic X-560 560W CPU Cooler: Gelid Tranquillo Rev2 and I added an extra case fan for future hard drives.
I had a question: I am used to running Windows 8 Pro in a non-domain (non-server) environment where the login is your Microsoft account (aka Windows Live ID). Once I receive the server, I plan on using Windows 8 Pro with the server's domain. I have found that there is a way to associate a domain account with a Microsoft account, and then the Microsoft account backs up Favorites, etc.
When I currently log into Windows 8 Pro, the user name has been the first name on the Microsoft account. When I switch to using the server, is there any advantage to making the user name the first name (as before) and have the domain account match the password of the Microsoft account? Or are these two accounts completely separate?
I'm hoping someone has some experience with this.
Thanks,
Yaamon
