Non-Domain Users Can't Create New Sub-Folders

I have Essentials 2012 at home, with a number of different PCs. One is a windows 8 laptop running the home edition of Windows 8. It therefore can't join the domain that my server runs on. However, backup still works fine. I have created a user account called "Daniel" on the server, and I log on to the laptop as "Daniel". Both accounts have the same password. I can see the Users\Daniel folder contents, but I can't see other users, e.g. Users\Martin, which implies to me that the computer has at least acknowledged that I am running as the right user. I can create a new file in that directory too by right clicking and doing New->Text Document. I can save the contents of the file. What I can't do is rename the file, or create new folders. I get an error "You need permission to perform this action".

The same issue is happening with File History - I can't save file history on this machine because I can't properly write to the folder.

I tried the same thing with a Windows 7 machine with a different user account, also the same as the username on the server, but not on the domain. Same result.

How do I set this up so that the non-domain users can actually use their folders?

Thanks

Martin
