Hey all,
Since my post here last year (almost exactly one year!!), I now have the opportunity to upgrade my WHS box once again.
This is my current WHS box v1 hardware specs:
* AMD Athlon 64 x2 Dual Core 5000+
* ASUS M2N32-SLI DELUXE motherboard
* 4GB RAM
* 2 x Seagate 2TB HDDs - ST2000DL003
I currently have these hardware as spares in the next few weeks time which are:
* Intel Core 2 Duo E8400
* 8GB RAM
* Gigabyte EP43-DS3L
* 128GB SSD
* 500GB HDD
My plan:
Move 2 x Seagate 2TB HDDs to the Intel box, with the 128GB SSD as the boot drive and go with WHS 2011. From what I read, there is a way to get WHS2011 to use the whole 128GB as the boot drive, but I can't find how to do it. Anyone got a link?
One thing that is stopping me from going to WHS2011 is the loss of folder duplication/pooling. I am aware of Drive Bender and also StableBit DrivePool but I'm not sure which one. I would like something where I can set it up and forget. ASnd have it to alert me of any HDD issue, overheating etc.
Which one do you use? And what hardware changes would you recommend for me to make in order to use WHS2011 successfully?
My main purpose of this server is to do PCs backup, and also possible of photo/video streaming (once I upgraded our internal networking)
Anything else I might have missed out?
Thanks all!
