Hey there!
I'm curious, how does the wakeup for clientcomputers on scheduled backups work?
I'm running a rather untypical homenetwork with a routed(!) openVPN connection beetween my office and my homenetwork.
Homenetwork: 192.168.2.0 (all wired)
- WHS 2011:
- Client 1
- Client 2
- Client 3
- OpenVPN Server on VirtualBox running on the WHS mashine.
Office Network: 192.168.3.0 (all wired)
- Client 4
- Printer 'n stuff... .
The interesting thing here: Client 4 (on a different subnet then the WHS box) wakes up automatically when it's scheduled for backup. I'm pretty shure it's impossible for a magic packet to go cross-subnet.
Like, when I try to manually wake client 4 from client 1 by sending a magic packet, client 4 won't even think about waking up. When i'm trying the same thing on a computer within client 4's subnet, it works flawless. So, how does lightsout (on subnet 192.168.2.0) tells client 4 (on subnet 192.168.3.0) it's time to get backed up?
Yours
