Hi I have been running my home built server for some time now and have it running as I want but have a need/want to change the main system hard drive.
I have built my server on a Dell OptiPlex 380 which only has room for 2 internal drives so currently have a 500Gb C/D drive and a new WD Red 2TB as my main data drive. I have been backing this up to a 2TB USB WD which is a Green drive. and this is now falling over and is always very slow to back up.
So the plan was to move the data off the 2TB red and then to image the C/D drive on to this and then expand the D drive to fill the drive and to then move my data back on to it. I would then have a free slot and would start with my old 1TB Green as a back up for the main files just not the client back ups until I can buy a second 2TB red and then I would drip this in to the case in place of the 1TB as a back up.
So the issue I have is how best to image the drive? as all the free software will not allow me to image a server (I was playing some time a go as I had a small SSD that I was looking to use as my C and then the 2TB Red as Data)
I know others have done this sort of thing and I know I could re-build but as I host a Brownies and Scouts web site I don't want the down time to be to long either.
So what is the best way?
I am sure I will gets lots of ideas from you guys as you have helped me through WHS V1 and now on WHS 2011.
Thanks
