After a failed system drive got me and my son building a new server (so far he's got Server 2012 virualized in Debian - crazy kid), I've decided to go ahead and install WHS2011 on our Lenovo D400 (same as Acer H340) and use it for things that don't need much horsepower (basically non-video stuff). I imagine some video will still find its way there, but there isn't going to be much asked of the D400 along those lines (no more transcoding HD - which it could barely ever do anyway, LOL).
Anyway, I have three most readily available drives to choose from to install WHS2011 to and would like some help in determining which one to use.
- 1 TB WD Caviar Black about 3 years into its 5-year warranty (more to show it's age than to determine reliability, but SMART data looks good).
- 160 GB Seagate ST3160815AS about 5 years old but with good SMART numbers.
- 2 TB WD Red with about 10 hours use on it.
I also plan to use Stablebit DrivePool & Scanner to provide functionality similar to Drive Extender.
Which drive would be best to use for the OS and why?
Thanks!
