I was committed to upgrading my Lenovo D400 (virtually identical to the Acer H340) before installing WHS2011 and/or Server 2012 Essentials. (see "New Install On Lenovo D400/acer H340 Box" - http://forum.wegotserved.com/index.php?/topic/28297-new-install-on-lenovo-d400acer-h340-box/)
I had decided on putting a Intel Celeron G2020 in it (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819116886) on a new motherboard - most likely the Gigabyte GA-H77N-WIFI (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128567) or the ASUS P8H61-I R2.0 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131878).
Unfortunately, I've learned from the user's manuals that these boards require a minimum of a 300W (Gigabyte) or 350W (ASUS) Power Supply, which, as it turns out, significantly exceeds the one in my D400.
The PSU in my D400 is a Delta Electronics GPS200AB D and has a maximum rating of 200W (if +12V only), with a maximum of 65W on the +5V and +3.3V outputs together and a max of 190W when any of those are combined with the +12V output.
I was really hoping for a result that could run Server 2012 if possible and serve HD video streams to at least two destinations over the LAN at any time. Are there any MB/CPU/Graphics solutions that could do that adequately AND run on my current power supply, or am I going to have to go to a better one?
If I need a better one, how do I go about finding a "good" one. It's hard to imagine getting a more powerful power supply without causing some heat issues in my system, because there's just not much room for a fan to cool it. The PSU I have now measures only 6" x 3.2" x 1.7" with a tiny 1-1/2" fan.
If this is too marginal, I'll probably have to scrap the idea of upgrading the nice little D400 box and start from scratch building into something like the BitFenix Prodigy case.
Any thoughts?
