I've been strongly considering switching my WHS 2011 box over to Windows 8, partly because I like to keep up with the times, and I don't want to toss out the cash for WS2012E--nor do I want a domain in the house, even if I can get around it.
I also have been thinking about setting up a Windows 8 HTPC, pretty much for only music and movies.
This got me thinking... why not do both with one system? I can leave it running like I already do to serve network shares, and interact with it either via RDC for management, or on the TV as a media center.
Does anyone see big red flags with this?
Also... I've been using DrivePool with WHS for a while now and am very satisfied with it. I know the non-server version 2 is still in beta, and I'm not a huge fan of entrusting my important files to beta software. However, I imagine that while it's beta, it's probably more the UI that's under heavy work and the underlying foundation is pretty solid based on its released state for WHS. I also have CrashPlan for offsite backups and a USB 3.0 HDD for onsite backups, so if anything did go terribly wrong, I'd probably be okay. Anyone experience any issues using the DrivePool beta in Windows 8?
