Weird reaction with my MS470. Started with a bad operating drive. Replaced and restored entire server from restoration disk and amazon offsite backup.
Weirdest thing since; if the server is stopped by an external power loss or any other transient then the server shuts off. When you start it up, drives do not spin and only the center blue light is dimly lit.
If you pull the operating drive out (while powered up) then the unit comes alive and starts a startup routine. (this has happend twice) From this point, if you put in a fresh drive in operating slot, the unit will reposnd and can be reloaded from scratch. It can only be restored if the drives are removed.
Voltage checks when running seem OK as with temperatures. Problem of the dead dim eye is baffelling. Could there be some majic drive shunt switch setting or pin clip that needs to be installed on the drives (new WD Red 2Gb drives) that is causing the startup problem?
Running out of places to find answers and I love this server so much.
