I've got a Gigabyte GA-MA74GM-S2 Rev.1.x which I've been running with WHS for about 3 years now. It’s got 2gb of something in it and an AMD Athlon II X2 245. I recently upgraded to 2012 Essentials and am thinking about upgrading the processor and motherboard.
Right now I'm looking at AMD Phenom II X4 Black Edition which is pretty cheap considering what they use to be. Memory I’m looking at is 4gb of Mushkin Enhanced Silverline DDR2 800. I would consider 8gb or ECC if it’s worth it but the 2 x 4gb kits are really expensive at close to $200.
Any comments on that processor? Memory suggestions? Is it worth it to even upgrade this guy or should I just get a whole new CPU, MB, and memory combo. I've got 10 HD in it right now, 6 running off the board and another 4 off a SATA card. It might be nice to get a board with 10 SATA as I've seen some of them around now.
