I have had a HP MediaSmart server for many years now and have had a relatively hassle free ownership in a Windows 7 environment.
However, I have recently updated my PCs to Windows 8 and none of them can connect to the server using the connector software. I have re-installed Windows 7 on one machine and likewise, the connector software will not install. It seems to find the server but gets stuck on the second step of "Downloading software from your Home Server, 0% complete."
The sever itself looks healthy - blue lights on all the bays and the three icons at the foot of the server are all blue. Also, something else that is confusing me is that the machine recognises the server on the home network in Windows File Explorer.I see it appear under 'Media Devices' (a la TwonkyMedia) and also under 'Other Devices.' I tried to attach a screenshot, but you cannot post jpg files here.
If i need to remote desktop to the server to resolve this, could someone please give me an idiot's guide to remote desktop access and what i need to do?
Any help would be greatly appreciated as I have loads of media that I do not want to lose.
Thanks
Jeremy
