Mapping Network Drive Vs Server Launchpad

Hello,
I'm currently evaluating Server Essentials 2012 and will likely be implementing it in a production environment within the next few weeks.
I've installed Essentials and quite like it so far. At this time, I only have one device connected to the server (ie. one laptop).

I realize that when connecting a device, two components are installed: the launchpad and the dashboard (only executable with an administrator account).

I will be connecting about 20 devices. More than half the devices will be used by beginner users which would have no use for the launchpad. Backups will be scheduled, so users will not need to run their own backups. So really the only useful feature of the launchpad would be accessing the shares.

I'm thinking about disabling automatic run of the launchpad, and providing access to the relevant shares by simply mapping them as network drives.

Any disadvantages in setting up client devices this way?
I have not fund any info on this at all, so I'm guessing most implementations simply use the Launchpad to gain access to the shares.

Thanks.
