I bought two WD Caviar Black 2TD disks about a month ago. Three or four times, one of the new WD disks will disappear from the OS it is in the BIOS. To make it reappear, you have to reboot the server. After the reboot, all is good again for a week or more.
This first happened when I was formatting the disks in Disk Manager, before the disks were part of the WHS. They are now both part of the WHS Stablebit Drive Pool with all files duplicated. When one disappears, I cannot write to the WHS folders - which is how I usually know one of them is hiding again.
I have been searching the net and the WD support site, and cannot find any reasonable solution to my problem. It doesn't seem to be hardware related as some folks I have read have done all sorts of swapping and changing everything around - as I also did at first. I swapped all the cables, ports, etc.
I don't know what is causing the problem. It just seems to be running along and all of a sudden one of the disks will be gone.
Does anybody have any idea what this might be or where to look for a solution?
