I am having a problem that I cannot figure out with the connector software after a recent 2011 E software update.
I have many computer on my home network connected to my 2011 Essentials server. All of the computers are running Windows 7 Home Premium except for mine which has Windows 7 Professional.
All of my computers are set up to use a Workgroup. Yesterday when the SBS 2011 E received software updats all of the computer went offline as far as their connections and then all of the computers automatically installed new connector software which went ok except with the Windows 7 Pro computer and required a reboot.
The update failed on this computer and for some reason the computer was joined to a domain account and was switched from a Workgroup account. When the machine rebooted I had a new desktop, new icons etc. Since the software failed I read somewhere to remove the connector software and then to reload the software. I did this again but the software appears to load but when I reboot the computer at the end of the software install I get an error message that it failed. At this point I again have a new desktop, icons etc.
I finally deleted the User that was created when joined to the domain and manually switched back to my workgroup on the computer and I had my original desktop, folders etc and everything works ok until I try to reinstall the connector software and then I go thru the same routine again. Workgroup changed to a domain, new desktop, etc. etc.
Since I needed to get the computer backed up I fired up my old WHS 2011 computer and connected the Windows 7 Pro computer to that server and the connector software loaded fine. However, I would still like to get this computer connector software loaded to allow me to backup to the SBS 2011 E server as a Workgroup member so I do not need to maintain both servers.
Any thoughts on how to solve this problem.
Thanks in advance,
Greg H.
