Accessing Whs 2011 Computer 's Desktop

Looking for some help with the following:

Accessing my WHS 2011 Computer's Desktop.

I have Remote Access set up whereby I can get to my whs 2011 computer's dashboard from any computer outside my internal network.  

I can also get to my whs 2011 computer's desktop from any computer outside my internal network as long as my personal laptop is left on and is connected to my internal network. I do this by accessing the laptop and then VPN to the whs 2011 desktop.

I cannot access my whs 2011 computer's dashboard or desktop on my personal laptop when I take it off my internal network and get on a different network,

Any Thoughts...
