I have a HP LX195 with a 640Mb Primary hdrive (SYS/DATA) and two additional USB drives attached for extra storage.
The original hard drive was going bad (no longer wanted to boot, tried chkdsk but still to no avail), so I just replaced it with a larger hdrive.
I unplugged the two additional USB hdrives from the machine, and used the Server Recovery DVD and ran the Server Recovery to install the WHS2008 on the new drive, RDP'ed into the machine, and ran windows updates. The HP LX195 is back up and running normally, except I have none of my old backups.
I tried to plug the USB drives back into the server and its wants to "add" them as new storage, but I am aware that this will format them and I will lose the data on them.
While my original disk is no longer bootable, it can be accessed if I drop it in a USB enclosure and access it thru the external USB Drive. On this drive, I can see both the SYS and DATA partitions.
Is it possible to recover the old backups from these drives?
