Had a installed an older used160 Gig HDD in the server dedicated to System backup. Then Home Server Smart indicated the drive was reallocating lots of sectors, so I swapped it out when still in the "Caution" stage. The replacement drive is a fairly new (900 hours) 120 Gig drive that has an "OK" status. Everything seems to be fine. The old HDD has been formated, but is now officially in the "Bad" status, so it is being used as a paper weight.
I read in other posts that installing a new drive for System backup will cause the O/S to be backed up in its entirety to the new HDD. I see that the O/S partition is 60 Gig on the C drive, and 33.8 of that partition is used. The HDD for backup has only 16 Gig used after the first backup.
To me, 16 Gig on the System Backup drive does not seem like a full O/S backup when the O/S takes 33.8 gig on the O/S partition.
Am I missing something? Is this correct? Did the server do a full system backup after the new HDD install? Is compression involved?
I am unsure that I can now do a full system restore since the old HDD is now trash.
Thanks,
Mark.
