My Fujitsu Seimens Ss4200 Almost Ended Up In The Dumpster

It had been flaky for some time and I decided it was approaching the end of it's life. It finally refused to start up and thought it was the end. I took all 4 HDs out and reformatted them and put them in another computer.

That's when I was shown a sign from above.

The other computer would not boot.

I removed each drive one at a time and found the culprit, a Hitachi 2TB.

Sooooo, I put the other 3 drives back in the Fujitsu and reloaded WHS (the flash drive still worked after 3 years and I was still able to find it). She's back up and running and I'll add the forth drive back as soon as Fujitsu sends me a replacement.

I have 3 of these (2 Intel and 1 Fujitsu). One has run more or less continuously for years, one is used for backups and is started once a week or so. The Fujitsu branded was also used for backup and had been trouble free untill about 6 months ago. It started out not wanting to boot (center light never stopped blinking) and then I notice network file transfers going like molasses on a winter day. Then finally it quit completely. The Hitachi is good according to Crystal disk Info b ut obviously it has a problem.

These 3 boxes will eventually end up in the Dumpster when they either out live there usefulness or they screw the pooch, whichever comes first. And I've sworn off headless servers for life, they're just a bad idea.
