I have a Lenovo/IBM Thinkcentre desktop PC from 2007. It was a corporate machine that was to be recycled because it was broken. I found in the past most of these machines just needed a fresh drive and all is well.
So I saved this machine from the recycling bin and took it home. Tossed the old drive and installed a small 160gig sata drive, loaded it with Win 7 and upgraded the memory to its max of 4 gig. Its running a Intel Core 2 Duo 1.86 Ghz dual core processor that works just fine for light work such as web surfing and MS Office.
When using it to edit home videos it maxes out at 100% cpu during the render period, and renders the video at slightly slower that real time (20 minute 1080P .MOV clip takes 25 minutes to render to 1080P MPG video file).
Would like to speed this up, so I ordered a 2.13 Ghz Core 2 Duo processor off ebay for $20 (used of course) that the Lenovo documents say is the max size. But after 2007, there were subsequent Core 2 Duo processors made by Intel that have the same FSB of 1066 Mhz. Do you think a 2.66 or 3.06 Core 2 Duo processor with 1066 FSB will run on the mother board? Without any more info from Lenovo, how can I tell?
