And Then I Did Something Stupid... Server Refuses Credentials Via Remote Login

Hi there,

I have an HP N40L Server on WSE2012

During Setup I gave the machine a stupid name, planning to experiment with it.

Later I liked WSE more than I expected, copied all my data there into a storage pool and later realized... f**k the machine is still named stupid.

So I tried to change the name. No chance since the Certificate Service was Installed. So I googled and found a tutorial that says I could go to Server Manager, uninstall the role, reboot, change the Server Name, install the role for certificate management again and I'm done.

Well, so did I.

But then he asked me to setup the role so I followed the wizard and did some new certificates etc (I left everything as advised and didnt change anything) and I was done in 3 Minutes.

Since then I can not access any network shares anymore since he refuses the password and username to be incorrect.

What I tried then:

- Uninstalling the role -> No result

- Uninstalling the role again, reinstalling the role with the old certificates still issued under the old servername since he still had them somewhere listed -> No result (current state)

- When I lock an account he gives back "account locked" and not username/pw incorrect

- When I set an account to change PW before next login he gives that back as well

- When I just enter correct credentials he says they would be wrong

- Now, 24h later, not even remote desktop works anymore but I can still access via KVM session (since I have a remote mgmt card in the server)

- Locally on the server everything works perfectly fine, also access to his network shares

- I created new users to test but the problem persists

- I changed all passwords but problem persists

I am now clueless what else to try.. And I am afraid that my storage pool is crapped after setting up the server again since I think I have heard that the storage pool only works with the currently installed OS and is worthless with any newly done OS. Can anybody deny or confirm that?

Is there any restore that could help me?

Or can I get a more structured approach to sort that certificate issues out?

I mean its not really logical that this would need a whole re-install now, is it?

Thanks for everybody reading and trying to help, appreciate it!

Cheers,

Nicao
