The other day I installed a new router and two switches with Gigabit capabilities. Those components have now brought the entire system up to Gigabit capability.
I was surprised to see that moving a large file from a gigabit desktop to the WHS '11 server maxed out at about 800 Mbps. The network cable is CAT-5, but when transferring files with the 10/100 switches in place, the speed was pinned at 100 Mbps.
Is 800 Mbps typical or should the speed be at 1Gbps? (assuming I am the only user on the system using the ethernet cable, everyone else is wireless)
