Medismart Ex495 Reinstall - Despite 2 Days Searching Forums - Still No Answer!

Hi folks,

Feels like I should be able to find the answer to this, as must be a common problem, but two days of google searching and forum trawling has produced lots of 'vaguely relevant' answers and lots of promising starts (with users with same problem) and false finishes (people end up talking about the price of fish!)

In summary:

Last good setup:

Hard Drive 1 - C: (System) and D: (Data) - 1TB

Hard Drive 2 - E: Polled drive with Folder duplication enabled.

My understanding of this was that all files on D: will be duplicated to E: ??

So - Hard Drive 1 fails (system disk) - clicking, red warning light etc. Try Server Recovery - no joy. Assume disk's shot - order a new WD Black.

Arrived today. Pulled out Drives 1 and 2. Put in new WD Black. Run Server Recovery on the Black. Installs system without a problem. WHS running faster and smoother than ever! :)

So one disk in machine - running fresh Mediasmart.

I pulled out Hard Drives 2 prior to new install b/c of something I read on one of the forums with system being installed onto duplication disk (E: in my instance).

So.... quesiton is - how do I get my duplicated files back off the E: drive and onto the (new) D: drive?

Here's what I've tried:

Insert Hard Drive 2 (with the duplicated folders on it):

WHS recognises the HDD, but only options are to add this as pooled storage, or as backup disk. No automatic process triggering to re-populate the new D: As I understand this - both options would wipe the disk (ouch!).

Started again. Switched off machine. Put in Hard Drive 2 (E:) (so new caviar black in alongside 'old' disk containing duplicated folders). Ran recovery disk again - hoping process would 'sense' the duplicates disk. Again, installed without issue. However, again, no automatic process to copy the Duplicates Folders, nor 're-pool' both drives with duplication.

It's all very frustrating. What's the point in buying another disk and turning on duplication if you can't use this if system disk fails!?

Can anyone help?

[On an asside, connected up my old, clciking 'failed' system disk to my PC - still occationally clicking, but can access my shares and user files )all current). Ran various disk checks - no errors! (although iterpretting SMART data beyond me!). I would rather avoid transferring these files to my server, b/c:

a) rather do it 'correct' way that system expects to ensure it's happy and smiling

b) It'll take ages; what if drive fails half way through and what if some files corrupt etc etc.]

Really would appreciate some help. 10 years of music, phots and videos. Bit like loosing all yer family photos in a house fire.

Regards,

Steve
