Greetings all. Certified noob here. I'm about to embark on building my first home server and any advice or suggestions would be very much appreciated.
Goal: The primary purpose of the server will be for media storage. My intent is to run iHomeserver in order to host itunes and allow streaming to an Apple TV 3. Secondary purposes will be file back up for the home. I would also like the flexibility to convert the server to a full fledged HTPC and run XBMC if I decide to ditch the ATV3, but this is secondary at the moment.
Budget: $500-$700 (The configuration below hits the high budget side.)
Proposed Hardware:
MoBo: ASUS P8H77-I LGA 1155 Intel H77 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 Mini ITX Intel Motherboard
CPU: Intel Pentium G870 Sandy Bridge 3.1GHz LGA 1155 65W Dual-Core Desktop Processor Intel HD Graphics
PS: FSP Group FSP220-60LE(80) 220W Mini ITX/ Flex ATX 80 PLUS Certified
RAM: Mushkin Enhanced Blackline 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory
OS HDD: Western Digital WD Blue WDBAAX5000ENC-NRSN 500GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive
Storage HDD: 2xWestern Digital WD Green WD20EARX 2TB SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive
Case: Fractal Design Node 304 FD-CA-NODE-304-BL Black Aluminum / Steel Mini-ITX Tower
Thanks in advance for any help and please, be gentle.
