I have a WHS V1 Server built around a SuperMicro SM-C2SBC-Q Mobo with a Intel Dual Core Pentium E5200 and 4GB RAM. All 6 MOBO SATA ports are occupied, 1x500GB WD Black for the system and 4x2TB WD20EADS Green drives and 1xHitachi 5k3000. I also have a SuperMicro AOC-SAT2-MV8 plugged into a PCI slot with 2x2TB WD20EADS Green Drives and 1xHitachi 5k3000 plugged into ports o,1 & 2. Total of 9 drives in the system. When I try to add a 10th drive to the pool on port 3 of the AOC-SAT2-MV8, it shows up initially with no problems, but within a short period of time, WHS will report the drive as missing. This caused me to lose all of my backups as WHS could not repair them. Thinking I had a possible bad controller card (or a bad SATA Port), I moved one of the existing drives into port 3 and put the new drive into port 2. Same problem. WHS would report the NEW drive as missing, and I would lose my backups. So, I pulled the AOC-SAT2-MV8 card out of the system, and installed my old Silicon Image 4-port SATA card into the system. Same problem. It seems WHS (or something) will not allow me to have any more than 9 hard drives no matter WHAT controller card I use. For the record, I have also tried replacing the SATA cables - no improvement.
Has anyone had or heard of this problem and can offer me a possible solution? I am at my wits end with this and do not know where to go from here. I need to add more drives, but cannot figure out why my system will not allow it.
Thanks so much for any help or direction you guys can provide.
