Hi all, I am new to this forum and to servers etc and was wondering if somebody could advise me on a few things?
I would like to setup a Server for my home using my old pc.
This is what I would like it for:
- Store multiple hard drives in RAID and then backed-up again externally
- Store media such as my photos, music and movies
- Stream movies to my XBMC computers
- Have two user accounts (one as the admin) that will be able to logon to any computer in the house and access files for that account (PC and Mac)
- Not needed 24/7 at the moment so to turn on from 4.00pm - 1.00am each day only.
- Remove Internet access from my server (local access only)
- Have remote access to the server as it will eventually have no screen.
So far I have built my server, installed my drives, connected to my router etc then installed Windows Home Server 2011.
First impressions....I hate it. Really slow performance in loading the dashboard. Drivers are not installed and I cant find them. Cant figure out how to set-up users with folders etc.
I would like to remove the default share folders as I will set my own (not sure how though!).
I also have a copy of Windows Server 2008 r2, would this be better?
Can WHS 2011 do all of the above??
Sorry for all the questions, please move this to the appropriate forum if needed.
Thanks in advance.
Phil
