Hi,
I have an upgraded MediaSmart EX490 server with E7400 CPU and 2 GB RAM, 1Tb system disk, and (2) 2Tb storage disks. Recently I added a debug board connecting mouse/keyboard/monitor. So technically it's an EX495 now.
My HomeServer SMART add-on reports that the system disk is about to fail.
Previously I was successful in recovering the server using the enclosed Server Recovery disk. As part of the process you need to power the server up, and when the health light starts to blink red/aqua, you have to press the recessed button next to the light.
The health light no longer blinks red/aqua, it only blinks aqua.
Here's what I tried so far:
- pressed the button when it blinked aqua and ran Server Recovery disk on another PC (cable connecting both machines), it times out with error message "failed in step 2 out of 4"
- set Boot from Network and tried the same, with the same results
- reset BIOS (I have a monitor connected) to optimal values
- reset BIOS to safe values
- connected DVD drive and tried to boot from the Server Recovery disk. It would not boot. Guess it’s not bootable.
- connected DVD drive, installed Windows 7 onto spare disk0 (storage disks are removed) and tried to run Server Recovery disk from locally connected DVD drive.
- Connected a USB disk to the front USB port and tried to back the system partition using Backup utility. It would not finish backup.
The server works, but it can fail any day, I am trying to replace the system disk before it dies.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
